We have recently received an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant, which will support our work in three low-income communities in Ottawa: Vanier, Bay Ward, and Hunt Club Park. The goal of this project is to support vulnerable populations who are not well-served by a healthy transportation network of sidewalks, walking paths, multi-use paths, bike lanes and public transportation in Ottawa. It will support them in seeking improvements needed in policies, infrastructure, access and affordability.
The City of Ottawa will begin to update its Official Plan and Transportation Master Plan in 2019, and the Healthy Transportation Coalition is working to ensure that transportation equity is incorporated into those plans.
Our work hopes to address systemic barriers that people are facing, and to work with the City to ensure improvements are made to help people who have been historically disadvantaged.
